Only a few days into the first week of the 2022 run, and it’s been pretty amusing. The first email I got was someone telling me to eat a fruit, as a favor to them. Which was both sweet, and completely missing what this project is about. Or maybe doing exactly what this project is about. That instinct for reciprocity, to want to do a good turn for another when they do a good turn for you. It’s a powerful motivator.

ONEFAVOR Project: 2022
The ONEFAVOR project is an exploration of mutual aid, currency, and community building. Ceramic tokens have been created, each worth a favor from me. The favor is being left general and nondescript on purpose, so that the favor can take the form of anything a person needs. The point is to try and engage with people directly, to help them with things that they otherwise wouldn’t or couldn’t have gotten to by themselves.
The 2022 run was of 365 tokens total, one for each day of an average year.
The favors have only 3 rules:
Nothing Illegal
Only Labor
Nothing over eight hours of work
This project is ongoing, and does not have a set end date. I’ll be documenting the favors that I do that people are comfortable with me writing about. I’ll be reflecting on what they needed, how the interaction went from my perspective, and any thoughts that came up while performing the favor.
